Finding Normality in Difficult Times for Witches

March 18, 2026

Today, as I sit here with the front door open, a gentle breeze, and birdsong wafting across the porch as the pooch looks on, comfortable, content, and feeling relaxed with his bone within reach, I realized I was in a sacred moment. A moment of peace. With all the “goings on” in the world, I was relaxed and feeling centered.

Life brings unpredictable storms that can drain our energy and leave us feeling unanchored. When the world feels chaotic, your spiritual practice might suddenly feel distant, overwhelming, or difficult to maintain. Please know that this is a completely natural response. You do not need to perform elaborate spells or complex ceremonies when your spirit simply needs rest.

Finding your footing during difficult times is about adapting your craft to support your healing. Here is how you can gently maintain your spiritual connection and care for your unique energy when the path gets rough.

Embrace the Magic of Small Rituals

When your energy runs low, scale your practice down to its most basic, beautiful roots. Magic lives in the mundane just as powerfully as it does in grand rituals.

Focus on tiny acts of intention. As you brew your morning tea or coffee, stir it clockwise to draw in peace and resilience. Light a single white candle to clear the energy in your room while you take three deep breaths. Wash your face with water you have previously set under the moon, allowing it to cleanse away the heaviness of the day. These small, mindful moments keep your energetic pathways open without demanding energy you do not currently have.

Practice Gentle Grounding Exercises

Difficult times often scatter our energy, making us feel anxious and disconnected from our bodies. Grounding exercises pull that erratic energy back to the center and help you find stability.

Try a simple root visualization. Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and picture strong, glowing roots extending from the soles of your feet, pushing deep into the earth’s rich soil. Imagine the earth absorbing your stress and sending warm, stabilizing energy back up into your body. You can also carry a grounding stone, such as black tourmaline, smoky quartz, or obsidian, in your pocket. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, hold the stone and let it absorb the excess static in your mind.

Reconnect with the Earth

Nature provides a constant, reassuring rhythm when our personal lives feel unpredictable. Connecting with the earth reminds us that all things move in cycles—and that this difficult period is simply a season that will eventually pass.

You do not need to take a long hike to connect with nature. Step outside barefoot for just five minutes to feel the grass or soil beneath your feet. Sit by an open window and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves. Bring a small piece of nature indoors, like a fallen branch, a smooth river stone, or a fresh flower, and place it on your altar or nightstand. Let the enduring strength of the natural world remind you of your own resilience.

Honor Your Sacred Path

Above all, be gentle with yourself. Your inner magic does not fade simply because you need to rest. It retreats inward to gather strength, waiting patiently for the season to change.

Remember that you are never walking this path alone. Give yourself permission to pause, to heal, and to practice your craft in whatever way feels supportive right now. Your spiritual journey is deeply personal, and adapting to your present needs is one of the most powerful forms of magic you can practice.

I would love to hear in the comments how you find those little islands of peace.

Blessed Be!
